Name : Fabrice Rungi
Job Role : Store Manager
Retail Shop / Country : 33 boulevard Raspail, 75007 Paris - France
What did you do before you started with Crockett & Jones?
I started working as a hairdresser, then I moved from head to feet and dedicated myself to my real passion: fine shoes. After eight years of selling different shoe brands, French, Italian and English, I met Thierry Duhesme (Laurent Duhesme brother, the current manager of Crockett & Jones Paris) who had planned to open the first Crockett & Jones store in Paris. Obviously, this adventure seduced me and is still as stimulating as it was in 1998!
Why did you decide that retail was a career you wanted to pursue, and what brought you to Crockett & Jones?
Working in retail, in store more precisely, permits me to be in contact with real shoe lovers who come in our store and have the pleasure of buying one of the most beautiful products in the world directly from the shoe industry. It also permits me to transmit my own passion.
How long have you been working for Crockett & Jones?
I have been part of the shoe industry for 25 years in total, but started at Crockett & Jones in 1998 so, 17 years.
What shoes did you wear to work today?
Today I am wearing the Clyde style which is a dark brown easy shoe.
From the current collection, what is your favourite Crockett & Jones style?
I particularly like the Skye model, but also Pembroke and Galway. All these Boots and Derbys with rubber sole are totally in fashion.
Working in Paris, you must know some hidden gems. Tell us something interesting about the City that you would happily recommend your customers do or see?
If one wants to discover a city, I advise to walk freely along the streets, the old quarters like Le Marais for instance, it is a historical place of Paris proposing an interesting mosaic of culture, trends and gastronomy.
In your opinion, what really makes a pair of Crockett & Jones shoes special? Is it the Design, the Construction, the Heritage, the people?
In my opinion, Crockett & Jones is a mythic brand, it is a family story, perpetuating itself since 1879 with deep values. It is all about traditional know-how, respecting the Northampton label. It is a perfect English style, modern and timeless, first class materials, quality finishing, and always with the mark of a craftsman’s hand that make Crockett & Jones shoes get even more beautiful with age.
Who inspires you professionally and personally?
I am an eclectic self-educated man who takes inspiration from different fields, from fashion to art and History, because for me all of these are linked. I don’t have any mentor in particular, I try to be a free inspired person.
